The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) recently announced Believe in Music Week to be held the week of January 18, 2021. While it’s a far cry from the organization’s popular annual trade show, NAMM executives are hopeful to provide members and companies with the means to network and promote in a big way. Founded in 1901, The NAMM Show is widely recognized as “the world’s largest trade-only event for the music products, pro audio, and event tech industry.” Believe in Music Week will offer educational opportunities and special programming and content available through BelieveMusic.tv. The weeklong event will also offer an interactive market place that will allow vendors and business to connect in real time. The event will begin on Monday January 18 and conclude on Friday, January 22. Registration will open in October 2021. "While it remains unsafe for us to gather in person in January, Believe in Music Week will use new, intuitive technology to connect us all to harness the incredible energy that happens when we come together. With a robust marketplace to launch new products and share brand stories, Believe in Music Week will also feature networking and matchmaking for our buyers and our sellers, education for all segments of the industry, and live music and concerts to engage music makers across the world." Joe Lamond, NAMM President and CEO Sweetwater editorial director Mitch Gallaggher commented on the event stating, “We at Sweetwater as well as our customers look forward to The NAMM Show, yet with COVID, there’s been a lot of changes and we’ve all had to adapt in many ways… With each change like this there comes an opportunity and we’re very excited that NAMM will bring us Believe in Music…While we can’t replace The NAMM Show, we look forward to all that this new platform has to offer including the ability to connect with our vendors, the opportunity for more of our staff to experience new products as they’re announced, the ek’ducational and training opportunities that Believe in Music will provide and so much more. By coming together for NAMM’s Believe in Music, we can all help support our industry and the world’s music makers. We’re looking forward to a great event.” Want to know more? This week Lickd announced a new partnership with media giant Warner Music Group. Together the two companies will be able to provide an expansive music database for video content creators across major social media platforms. The UK based company made the announcement on Monday stating “The Exciting new partnership with Warner Music will bring more top-quality tracks from famous artists to the Lickd platform.” This deal comes just months after Lickd signed a deal with Universal Music Group back in June 2020. So, what does this partnership mean?Video creators should be super excited about the Lickd and WMG mash up. By the two companies joining forces creators can now use current and popular music, that people actually want to listen to, in their videos without fear of copyright infringement. Creators now have more flexibility and means to make a greater impact with current and trending tracks. And now viewers will be able to enjoy the content from their favorite creators now with their favorite music. Lickd also anticipates the partnership to be a “game-changer.” With stronger, more popular tracks showing up in our content feeds, Lickd expects the music industry will “provide us with bigger and better music. Creators are then invited to “Join the music revolution. And bring a Creator friend.” Previously Hookd Ltd, Lickd Ltd was established in 2016. The company works to provide online content creators with the ability use current and relevant music sources while maintaining artists’ rights. Using their VOUCH software the companies offers creative freedom for creators and fair and accurate royalties tracking and payment for artists. Warner Music Group is a leading record company. Trini Lopez Succumbs to COVID-19 at 83Famous singer, and actor, Trini Lopez, passed away at a Rancho Mirage hospital in California on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 due to COVID-19 complications. He was 83. Although Lopez had no wife or children, his legacy remains through his numerous contributions to the entertainment industry. The announcement was made by his business partner, Joe Chavira, who recently helped him complete “If By Now.” It was a song written to support food banks during the ongoing pandemic. Noting the irony, Chavira is quoted saying “and here he is dying of something he was trying to fight” to the Associated Press. A tweet posted by David Grohl of the Foo Fighters stated “Today the world sadly lost yet another legend, Trini Lopez. Trini not only left a beautiful music legacy of his own, but also unknowingly helped shape the sound of the Foo Fighters.” Trini Lopez’ Music Trini Lopez’ career began when he was 15 with the creation of his first band. His group Big Beats was signed to Columbia prior to him going solo with King Records during the late 1950s. It wasn’t until 1963, during his residency at PJ’s in Los Angeles, where Frank Sinatra discovered him and signed Lopez to Reprise Records. Lopez is best known for “If I Had a Hammer” and “Lemon Tree.” Although the songs were covers from different artists, his renditions fared better on the Billboard’s charts. In 2014 Lopez attributed his success to “making his songs danceable.” By combining American folk music with Latin and Rockabilly beats, Lopez was able to connect with his listeners in a way that other artists couldn’t. “Discotheques back in those days were not only playing my songs, they were playing my album all the way through” Lopez told The Classic Rock Music Reporter during an interview in 2014.
